ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
FOUNDATIONS
Grades 5-8
The Foundations Program, grades 5-8, is designed to accommodate
students' individual needs in both curriculum and instructional strategies. We believe that an educational model with rigid parameters does not allow for differentiated and individually-paced learning. Hence, our program is designed to assess students' specific needs and utilize these assessments to design an individual education plan tailored to meet those needs. Student progress and teacher practice is constantly assessed to ensure that our program is meeting objectives. At minimum, the program aligns with state standard requirements with respect to curriculum, instruction and promotion to next levels.
The faculty at Socrates Preparatory School has designed a custom elementary curriculum that aligns with our Socratic
philosophy. The curriculum is based on a wide selection of activities developed to build upon children's interests and ignite their curiosity. Young children as budding learners are inquisitive and creative. They are fascinated with every discovery they make. The elementary curriculum taught through our Discovery Program aims at harnessing the playful energy deep within every child to then transform it into love for knowledge, inquiry and learning. The curriculum reinforces fundamental skills and concepts in a fun, hands-on environment, and aligns practical application of concepts to everyday life.
The Discovery Program building was recently remodeled to provide a physical space that aligns with our interactive and exploratory teaching philosophy.
DISCOVERY
Grades 1-4
PREPARATORY
Grades 9-12
The Preparatory Program offers our students preparing to transition to college an elite educational experience to ensure their readiness. Our program curriculum exceeds FDOE requirements by providing low student/teacher ratios, individualized educational goals, academic enrichment classes, individualized college preparatory plans, additional focus on Socratic principles and liberal arts, enhanced sciences (theory and practice), authentic project-based and experiential field project units, and an extensive integration of technology, engineering, computer science and digital instruction.
Individual students will be placed in specific classes that match their needs and challenge them at the same time. This may or may not conform to their traditiona grade-level content; however, we realize that a fourth grader may read at a fourth grade level but perform at a calculus level in math. Every student has a custom schedule that best suits his or her skills regardless of grade level.
